Jinhae

On Wednesday Katie and I went with Henry and Nancy to the nearby city of Jinhae (pronounced Chin-hay). Henry and Nancy are engaged, and we met them at church. They are both very kind, and we were excited when they invited us to see the cherry blossoms in Jinhae. Jinhae is known for its annual cherry blossom festival, which has been running for the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately, it rained all day, but we still had a good time. As you can see, Jinhae is a port city along the coast.

This tunnel cuts through the mountains that separate Jinhae from Changwon. This is the view from the Jinhae side.

Cherry trees line the road on either side of the tunnel, making for an exceptionally beautiful drive at this time of the year.

In the city, Henry drove us down to a huge shipyard. This old tug boat was nearby.

Afterward, we drove back to Changwon where Henry and Nancy took us out for Dakgalbi, a dish that consists of chicken and rice, as well as small, cylindrical rice-cakes ("glutinous" rice-cakes, not crunchy). It was very good, and was cooked for us right at the table!
